TAKING the kids to the beach is the idea of hell for a lot of parents — with a bit of sunshine and coconut scent thrown in for good measure.

Their main reason? Because you practically have to load the car up with the whole house to keep everyone happy. There’s the mountain of towels, the sunscreen, the beach umbrella or sun shade, the bucket and spade, the beach ball and other blow up ‘necessities’, snacks, drinks, hats, and if you remember it … your sanity.

It’s for this exact reason Kmart came up with a solution to please all mums and dads out there feeling the struggle of summer — the Foldable Beach Trolley.

As Kidspot reports, this $49 trolley makes beach trips easier for all. It sold out in record timing last summer and it’s already proving to be a hit this year. But with spring looming, clever parents have now found different ways to use the much-loved trolley.

Mum-of four, Lynn Cleave, knows all about carting practically everything you own to the beach.

“It’s not easy carrying mountains of towels and beach gear, while trying to wrangle a baby and hold a two-year-old toddle’s hand across deep sand. I heard a rumour these trolleys were back in some stores after selling out last summer and I went on a mission to find one,” she tells Kidspot.

Testing out the trolley for the first time during a trip to the Gold Coast, Lynn was so impressed with the ‘multipurpose’ trolley, she decided to share it on the popular Kmart Mums Australia!!! Facebook page.

“First trip with the Foldable Beach Trolley to the beach! Perfect for a tired baby at nap time. Carried 2 families worth of belongings down to the beach fairly easily,” Lynn wrote attaching a picture of her snoozing baby.

Laughing about the makeshift port-a-cot, Lynn tells Kidspot the idea came about after her five-month-old was over their day at the beach just moments after arriving (yep, typical).

“Tired and needing his nap, my husband came up with the genius idea to empty the beach cart, pad it with a couple of towels and make a handy little cot for him to lay in while he napped,” she laughs.

It worked a treat, allowing a sand-free and wind-free nap for bub, and it seems a lot of parents are loving the idea with 88 comments from mums and dads sharing their love for the handy hack.

“That’s actually a wonderful idea. Our local can get a little windy. I was forever trying to build a little wind barrier for baby,” says one mum.

Other mums took the opportunity to share other ways of using the genius beach accessory.

“I use mine at the markets. Best thing ever! My 15yr old asked if she could nap in it,” one user jokes.

“We live on a farm and I use ours to cart the kids around whilst feeding all the animals,” shares another.

As with anything that is Kmart, we did a little digging around to see where we can get our hands on one of these beauties learn more about this handy item parents swear by and stumbled across more love for the item.

Rather than using it at the beach, mum Joanna Cox posted on the Kmart Mums Australia Facebook page to share how she keeps her own bub entertained at home.

“Picked up the last foldable beach trolley from my local Kmart. Seems a great purchase for $49! It’s now keeping my little one entertained while we wait for summer to come,” she wrote with an adorable, smiley snap.

Like so many other parents, Joanna tells Kidspot she was determined to get her hands on the beach trolley after missing out on it last year and hearing it was making a comeback.

“I immediately called my local store. I was pretty happy, there was just 1 left and they were happy to hold it for me,” she says.

“At just $49, I was really surprised how well-made and strong it was. My little one, Zack, loved taking a ride around the house to test it out! I can see there will be plenty of room in the trolley come summer when we head to the beach for all those items that are a pain to carry!

“It’s not just for the beach though — we will be taking it camping with us and I think it’s perfect for the local markets too. I even saw a lady coming out of Bunnings pushing one the other day — her kids were in there with some tins of paint.”

While the trolley is sold out online there is limited stock available in stores around Australia. So if you see one, throw it in your trolley, and head straight to the checkout.

And if you’re planning on using it for bub, just know that it’s not designed for that. But hey, whatever gets you through nap time, right?
